Jake has been playing with recording equipment, computer programs and musical instruments as far back as he can remember. Some of his earliest memories are playing with his dads audio programs (Acid Pro) and plucking his acoustic guitar strings. Later in life, he would constantly be glued to his walkman, listening to cassettes all day, and falling into the world of sound and music. As a teenager, he become a record store clerk in a smal, independntly owned record store. For years he fell into music production. Recording his and his friends bands, and constantly listening to music. He taught himself how to record basic demos, and eventually decided to go to college to follow his passion.
Upon graduating college in 2014 with a B.S. degree in Audio Engineering, he relocated to the West Coast and began working as a sound engineer immediately. Eventually more work came in the ways of sound design for theater, podcasts, radio dramas, commercials, and more.
He was the recipient of the Spotlight Award at the 2016 Drammys and a 2018 and 2019 PAMTA Outstanding Sound Award nominee. He has worked as a Sound Designer and Engineer in many Portland Theaters, most notably, Artist Repertory Theater, Portland Center Stage, The Newmark Theater and The Northwest Children's Theater and School. In the summer of 2017, Jake travelled to the Outer Banks in North Carolina to be the Chief Audio Engineer for the 80th anniversary season of the Tony Award winning outdoor drama, The Lost Colony.
As a freelance engineer, he records podcasts, voiceovers, commercials and musical groups throughout Portland. He also mixes studio albums for bands, and does post production for independent films.
